Proprietor Jean E. Hansgen is a Registered Nurse and holds both a Bachelors and a Masters in Nursing. She is a certified Feng Shui Consultant, Hypnotherapist, and Reiki Master/Teacher. She started the business, vending, in 1995 as part of her own recovery from depression and co-dependency so she could continue to be with others who seek self-improvement.. From 1995 through 2008 Harmonious Balance had a bricks and mortar storefront, adding a web store in 2000. In 2009 Harmonious Balance focuses on the web store and vending. In addition to operating Harmonious Balance, Jean is a Hospice Nurse. Jean loves to read, kayak on flat water, hook rugs, and drum. She is a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Coco, a toy poodle, served as Jean's assistant . Though Coco wrote in Many Voices, dance and play were her primary forms of artist expression. Coco was a survivor of "toddler-abuse" in the store. In late 2001, Coco retired & with more meditation, medication, and quiet is had fewer seizures. She was delighted that Jean was around the house more. Coco stayed in touch through her column in Many Voices, the Harmonious Balance newsletter. Coco also advised on purchases. Coco passed in August 2009 and is greatly missed.
